Many women experience thinning hair at some point in their lives whether it is hair loss from stress or thinning caused by other factors like using extensions which puts stress on the hair follicles causing breakage and in some cases traction alopecia. There are many factors and conditions that contribute to thinning hair and hair loss such as: hormone imbalances / fluctuations; prescription medications such as the the contraceptive pill (but there are many other medications that effect hair growth); over colouring and processing your hair; female androgenic alopecia (female pattern baldness); other forms of alopecia; surgery; chemotherapy; and trichotillomania.
What’s the difference between a wig and a clip in hair piece / topper?
Most wigs are designed to cover the whole scalp area and are most suitable for significant hair loss where lots of coverage is needed. A clip in hair piece / topper is ideal for covering smaller areas where there is fine hair or a visible bald patch of scalp. During your consultation, we’ll advise you on which option is best for you. What is the HSE wig grant? Am I eligible?
The wig grant is an annual grant available from the HSE. If you hold a medical card and you have a hair loss condition, you are eligible to for this grant. Since we are registered with the HSE, all you have to do is bring a prescription for a wig or hair piece from your GP (mentioning your hair loss condition) to us and we’ll do the rest. The amount of the grant varies from €330 to €700 annually depending on which HSE location you live in. In many cases the grant will cover the full amount of your wig or clip in hair piece / topper with us.
